And now a little summary of the match. A match that turned out to be my worst performence since we met the road machines in season 1...
We started on rally. YS with roadster, Eder and B.U.N.N.Y. I think they played all maps, but I'm not sure. Somehow I seem to forget to take screen shots when we lose a map... lol. eh played with Nanteq, Gandos and me. The first round was pretty close, but we did more mistakes and the point wen't to YS. I crashed in the first tunnel :P The story repeated itself in the next two rounds: YS drove safely, not making big mistakes. We only the other hand tried different stunts: Nanteq tried bungy jumping between two trees, I took a sumersault on the first jump, and Gandos was making some nice circles on the lawn... We made it 3-1 when I did the first of my two 1.01s. I don't think I had one 1.02, so my contribution to the loss of the map was pretty significant. On a good day I would have been consistent on 1.00 - 1.01, but "what if's" doesn't help now :P Gandos didn't have a good day either, being on average a second slower than in the qualifications on Tuesday...
YS continued their strong consistency. The times weren't superb, but still strong, and I guess they didn't take any risks when they realised how badly we were driving. So gg to YS, who took the map 7-1. Retrospectively, this map victory was their most impressive.
Next snow: Echo joins, Nanteq leaves. This map is closer than the rally, but the progress is about the same: YS were more consistent. I keep performing horribly, Gandos plays a bit better, and is our best player. But still, all make a lot more mistakes than usual. Again, we get our only point in a round I win. On the other hand: I think we lost three points because I crashed in the last tunnel again and again. There is no excuse for that! At least in the last half of the map I performed a little better than in the beginning of the match.
But back to YS. Their consistency was impressive. They made mistakes too, but when we made mistakes they were significantly greater. They deserved the win on the map, but I think 7-1 is flattering. On a better day the score could have been very different.
Last: speed. Echo takes over for Kiff. Not surprisingly, this was our best map. It started well too, with a 1-2-3 for the elk hunters. But Yucon Star answered quickly with a 1-2-3 (well, maybe we answered ourselves just as much, thinking that we can't start driving mistake free now...). Score: 1-1. Then 2-2. In the next two rounds we suddenly start performing as a team. I start driving at my usual level, and we see the light in the end of the tunnel: 4-2.
But this was not our day, least of all my day. For the rest of the match I mainly mess around. Three times in a row I mess up on the last jump (I was already behind on two of tyhe rounds) and hit the bumps in the middle and land on the side or on the roof. As if that wasn't enough, on the last round (score was 6-7) first I mess up in the first turn. Then I manage to take a jump thereafter, using the grid section as a quarterpipe. Normally this requires a respawn right away. But since I'm dead last, and the match seems over, I decide to complete the jump. I go beautifully over the stone arch, doing a nice 180 (I'm pretty proud of my self at this moment) preparing to continue with a nice landing. Of course this doesn't happen. I land upside down and have to respawn. I complete the round with a 180 on the last jump, driving backwards over the finish (something I should have done all the time, but stupid me trying to gain an extra 0.2 seconds...). YS takes the map 7-5.
YS was the stronger team today, no doubt. GG to them. I have seen them practicing a lot online the last two days, and I think they may have been better prepared than us. We certainly didn't give them much competition today. We looked more like a bunch of scatterbrained elks with a hangover than a hungry hunters.
We obviously suck on Thursdays (and since we might play both TnT and CS on Thursdays, this promises very well for the rest of the season) :P
GG YS! You are on your way to a D2 victory now. GL in your next matches!
I hope we can meet again someday so we can take revenge (-:
